ThymlyChef is built privacy-first. Most of what you do stays on your device, and we never sell your data. Here's exactly how it works — including how ads work on the free tier.
ThymlyChef is a personal culinary assistant published by KeelyApp, LLC ("ThymlyChef," "we," "us"). This policy covers the ThymlyChef mobile app and thymlychef.com. Questions? Email hello@thymlychef.com.
ThymlyChef is local-first. The following is stored on your device and is not transmitted to us: your pantry and fridge inventory, saved recipes, meal plans, events, shopping lists, nutrition logs, dietary preferences and dislikes, and app settings. Deleting the app removes this data from your device.
When you ask your chef to create a recipe, meal plan, event, or chat reply, the text of your request and the relevant context needed to answer it (for example, a snapshot of your pantry and your dietary preferences) is sent to our recipe and chat service and processed by our AI provider to generate the response. This transmission is required to produce the result you asked for. We do not use this content to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.
To illustrate a recipe, the app may request a matching photo from Unsplash based on the recipe title. Only the search text is sent.
If you create an account, we process your email address to sign you in and manage your plan. Paid subscriptions are purchased and billed through the Apple App Store (and Google Play in the future). We do not receive or store your full payment-card details — the app store handles payment and shares only your subscription status with us.
If you enable Apple Health, nutrition data is written to and read from Apple Health on your device, under your control. HealthKit data is not sent to our servers and is never used for advertising.
Tapping a shopping-list item may open a third-party grocery service (such as Instacart, Walmart, Kroger, or Amazon Fresh). Once you're in their app or site, their privacy practices apply.
The free, ad-supported version of ThymlyChef shows ads served through an advertising partner (such as Google AdMob). To show ads, this partner may collect information like device identifiers, IP address, general location, and app-usage signals, in accordance with its own privacy policy. Depending on your region and settings, you may see a prompt asking whether ThymlyChef can track you across other companies' apps and websites (Apple's App Tracking Transparency) — you can decline, and where available you can choose non-personalized ads. We never share your pantry, recipes, or nutrition data with advertisers. Chef's Table subscribers see no ads and are not subject to any of this ad-related collection.
We use a small set of providers strictly to run the app: our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate recipes and chat replies; Unsplash for recipe photos; an advertising partner (such as Google AdMob) to show ads in the free tier only; and Apple (and later Google) for app distribution and subscription billing. Each processes data only as needed to provide their service.
On-device data stays until you delete it or remove the app. If you have an account, you can delete it and its associated data at any time — see Delete account. Recipe-generation requests are processed to fulfill your request and are not retained by us to build a profile of you.
ThymlyChef is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region), and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to opt out of certain processing. Because ThymlyChef is local-first, much of your data is already in your own hands on your device. For anything held in an account, email hello@thymlychef.com and we'll help.
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your information, including the device Keychain for sensitive credentials and encrypted connections for data in transit. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure.
We'll update this policy as ThymlyChef evolves and post the new effective date here. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page.
